Now that we've learned the basic, we can move on to why and how Jesse Jackson became such a well known and respected name in the black community.
Jackson was also involved in many marches and he made many speeches that impacted the black community significantly. One of the most important marches that he was involved in was the one in Selma to Montgomery Alabama. The Selma to Montgomery marches were three protest marches, held in 1965, along the 54-mile highway from Selma, Alabama to the state capital of Montgomery. The purpose of these marches were to fight for the right to carry out their protest and most importantly, so that African Americans could vote. With all of the violence that was associated with these marches, you would think that they would've quit at that point but no. Jesse Jackson, Dr. King and many other activist persisted and kept trying to make a difference for blacks and thankfully they succeeded! And thanks to them, many African Americans have the right to protest and vote.
